Moni Segun-Idahor & Osazuwa Amadasun
The bride and groom share all the details about the big day, below, plus they explain that Osazuwa had to put in some work to catch Moni’s eye!
Tell us a bit about your love story: Our relationship story isn’t a “love at first sight” kind of story! Since I came to Canada, my aunt and friend have been telling me about this girl Moni for awhile so I took the plunge to talk to her when I moved to London but things didn’t go as I planned after a week. After two shutdowns by Moni, I didn’t totally give up. I still admired her from afar.

We became friends finally, I realized he is super cool and he jokes a lot, but I needed that because I can be super serious. We started talking, but our paths just didn’t align that way so we both took our separate paths.

We didn’t talk for awhile until after a retreat. Not sure what I did during the retreat that caught her attention, but she claimed that I didn’t do anything special. I would try to believe her. She told me even before the retreat she had been thinking about me. It was strange to her because we were not really talking before the retreat and she didn’t understand why she was catching feelings! So she prayed about it. We started talking again and that’s how the journey to our forever started.

What were your original plans for your wedding day? Original pre-COVID plan was to have 175 guests in a historical inn that is so beautiful. But as COVID would have it, we had to change plans because of the restrictions.
When you had to change your plans, how did you feel before and after? Honestly I started preparing for the worst case scenario since beginning of this year. I had dropped the number on my guest list to 50 since that was the number allowed for reception. However less than two weeks to our wedding date, Ontario went on a lockdown and we couldn’t have a reception. That really put a dent in everything. I had to start working with the wedding planner for a different alternative and I didn’t have a moment to consider how I was feeling because everyone around me was visibly upset so I had to be the strong one. Fast forward to the day of the wedding when nothing else could go wrong, I had my breakdown. But thanks to my girls, I was able to get over that and make the best of the day!
Will you be having a larger celebration next year? Everyone keeps asking this! I guess we’ve missed having a big celebration. Osazuwa and myself are very low key so I believe we would rather just travel as opposed to having a larger celebration. April 17, 2021 was a day we would never forget and we got married and we final with that and love that.
What was your favourite part of the day? The vows of course! They were so in sync it was beautiful and thoughtful
Tell us about the two ceremonies? We are both Nigerians and from the Edo culture. As a Nigerian we had to honour our parents by having a traditional wedding, which is a joining of both families together. The groom’s family has to bring gifts to ask for the bride’s hand in marriage and the bride’s family accepts the gifts and give their daughter to the new family.
What advice can you give to couples planning a wedding? Don’t stress about it! Do what you can do, delegate what you can’t do and pray that COVID doesn’t come back so you can enjoy your day!
